Ravi Meena
Ravi Meena is a Ph. D. student at the University of Georgia (UGA) studying Agricultural and Biological Engineering, under Dr. Simerjeet Virk. He is originally from Jaipur, India. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering and his master’s degree in Hydrology. He worked for two years as a Junior Research fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology.
Meena found his interest in agriculture and engineering through his bachelor’s degree program. He always enjoyed working with farm machinery and knew that this route would be best suited for his interests.
He chose to pursue graduate school because he wanted to expand his expertise in this field, in addition to his passion for working with sensors and farm machinery. Although he has only taken a few courses here so far, he feels that he will be able to apply this new knowledge to his future career.
Meena’s project is focused on investigating the potential of ground sensors and UAV-based aerial imagery for weed detection in peanuts and exploring the capabilities of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology on sprayers for prescriptive and variable-rate based targeted pesticide applications in peanuts.
While he still has a few years of his Ph. D. to complete, Meena is leaning towards a post-doctoral position that allows him to work with machinery after graduation.
